Pilates FAQs
WHAT IS PILATES - AND WHAT CAN IT DO FOR ME?
Pilates is an exercise method that helps to strengthen the body’s core and postural muscles.
Pilates focuses on postural and pelvic alignment, using breathing techniques within the exercises to connect with and strengthen the muscles in the abdomen and those holding the spine in place. These muscles are often called the ‘powerhouse’ muscles.
It is a great form of exercise for those wishing to build up strength, improve their posture and increase their flexibility, helping to create a real sense of well-being in the body.
Which type of pilates is for me?
My Body Control Pilates sessions are adapted from classic exercises, orginally developed by Joseph Pilates. Using a mat and light weights or resistance bands (all of which are provided), we’ll be exploring stretching and strengthening exercises, with an emphasis on strengthening the body’s core stability. I’ll be guiding you through all the exercises, step by step, ensuring they are safe and easy to understand.
I tailor my Body Control Pilates sessions to different abilities and offer everything from beginners classes to those for intermediate and advanced participants. I also have a gentle Pilates session that is ideal for those returning to exercise after pregancy or injury.
HIP Pilates combines the precision and focus of a classic Pilates session with the energy of a high intensity workout. Combining core strength, balance and coordination with an energetic cardiovascular element, HIP Pilates is a ‘feel good’ workout.
Do get in touch if you’d like to discuss options, have particular access or other requirements or are trying to find out the ideal class for you.
How much does it cost?
Pilates works very well in small group sessions. My own sessions cost £56 for a 6 week block (payable in advance). I keep class sizes to a maximum of twelve people so I can give all my clients individual attention.
If you’re interested in one-to-one tuition, I also offer this as at competitive rates. I can bring all the equipment necessary for a personally tailored Pilates session in your home.
Please get in touch if you would like to join any class or talk about one-to-one tuition.
What kit do I need?
All you need to take part in these classes are some loose clothes that are comfortable to wear when performing exercises standing up or on the floor.
Exercises are performed on mats which are provided, along with any weights or resistance bands that you’ll need during the class.
Do you run a class near me?
I run classes throughout Sussex – you can see a full list of my classes here. If you live in Sussex and don’t see a class near you, do get in touch. I’m always open to enquiries from people who would like to see a new class in their area.
